Siblings have a strong relationship, but the bond between twins and particularly identical twins is like no other. The connection between twins is truly one of a kind and is worth capturing. Through identical twins pictures, we can really see all similarities and differences that they have.
During childhood, twins are just like any siblings – they can be very close one minute and fighting the next. As they grow up into their teens and tweens, there will be a special bond noticeable between them. This is my personal opinion that is based on observations of my adult identical twin cousins, as well as my own identical twin daughters. Yes, you read that correctly – we are parents to identical twin girls who are seven years old now.
There’s something special about watching twins grow up and mature. They have so many similarities and share many things in common, although personalities are quite different.
Capturing these similarities and differences through a camera lens may not seem too important for some, but trust me – pictures made today will turn into priceless memories later in the future. You want to document that special relationship between twins, whether photographing your own children or as a professional for other families’ kids.

IDENTICAL TWINS PHOTOGRAPHY
Photographing identical twins is no different than photographing two siblings, well, for the most part. When working with identical twin kids, mom often wants to dress them in matching outfits, and have similar hairstyles. Indeed, this is genuinely charming in kids’ twins photography, but keep in mind that as kids grow up, they won’t enjoy matching outfits as much.
As twins mature, they develop their own personalities, styles, and interests. Even though identical twins will look exactly the same physically, often they will have different characters. These similarities and differences are so fascinating to notice and capture in the pictures!

CAPTURING TWINS SIMILARITIES
Identical twins share a lot of similarities between each other – and I’m not referring to physical characteristics only. As twins grow up together, they will mostly play and spend time with their twin. This way, they develop a lot of the same or similar interests and hobbies.
When looking at our twin daughters, I’m amazed at how much they both love art, drawing, singing, and just playing with each other! I’m not even mentioning the fact that I still mix them up from time to time – that’s how much they look alike.
If you are trying to highlight the twins’ similarities through portraits, make sure they wear matching outfits & shoes and have similar hairstyles. Depending on the age of the twins, choose activities and poses that will have them standing or sitting close to each other. Your goal will be to showcase how much alike these twins are.

CAPTURING DIFFERENCES IN TWINS PHOTOSHOOT
Even the most look-alike twin duos will have some differences. Whether it’s personality difference, varying clothing style, or merely a difference in hairstyle – all these aspects are important to capture.
As twins mature, they want the world to see them as individual personalities, and not as a copy of each other. So if the twins wish to express their differences during the photoshoot, it’s always a bonus.
It’s important that during any twins photoshoot, you not only take photos of them together but also of each one separately. Imagine not having a singe childhood image of yourself alone – that would be terrible. Keep in mind to highlight each child’s personality during identical twins pictures.
The same goes for the twins’ siblings. If the pair of twins have a brother or a sister, find creative ways to include all siblings in the picture. Remember that the children don’t have to be perfectly posed in these images – have them be themselves, run, play around as you capture some candid shots.

PHOTOGRAPHY APPROACH FOR DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS
Being a Sacramento portrait photographer for over ten years has helped me to find a photography approach that works for different age groups. I’ve realized that a professional photographer cannot specialize in photographing people of every single age group – it’s just not possible. But understanding some tips and tricks that might help you during a family or kids photoshoot, that’s what I want you to get out from this article.

NEWBORN IDENTICAL TWINS PICTURES
Newborn photography is best to be handled by a professional who specializes in this genre. Young babies require a unique approach that only professional newborn photographers have. You can get some decent pictures of your newborn twins on a simple family camera or a smartphone. However, it’s still best to trust a professional to deliver images that you will cherish for years.
Artists who specialize in newborn photography will be equipped with all the newborn props, accessories, and even matching baby outfits. They know the perfect poses for photographing babies.
Ideally, you want the newborn photoshoot to take place when the baby is 7-10 days old. This is when babies are the most calm and sleep a lot. Since twin babies are often born prematurely, it’s best to consult with your newborn photographer when the photoshoot should take place.
Newborn pictures are your baby’s first photos, which are often displayed in keepsake photo albums or a wall art print. Find a photographer who can create images that you want to keep looking at and enjoying time and time again.
TODDLER TWINS PHOTOGRAPHY
We probably all know the pros and cons of this age group. Babies grow up a bit, and they start talking and doing all these cute things. This is an enjoyable time for parents to spend time with their toddlers. The challenge of this age is that kids are often prone to tantrums and being cranky. They don’t always want to do what they are asked to by the parent or another adult.
Photographing kids at this age, and especially twins, is a bit challenging. However, with a few tips, you can get some great and memorable images.
We recommend reading our article 5 Tips for Photographing Kids, which provides more detailed information on how to get great results during a toddler and children’s photoshoot.

TEEN TWINS PHOTOSHOOT
During the early teen years, it’s pretty hard to get the teenager to take photos. They are usually either shy, not confident in themselves, or simply hate taking pictures.
However, this time is crucial to photograph as the person grows and changes so much through these couple years. It’s important to remember that any picture is better than no picture, as it will carry so many memories. It’s particularly essential to not skip identical twins pictures during the teenage years. Every year will bring some new milestones in their lives as they are maturing into young adults.
It seems like most of the teens have their pictures taken only during their high school senior photoshoot. This is a very good practice among high school graduates. High school senior pictures are very valuable as this is the time in their life when they are becoming adults.
We recommend you to see our Senior Portrait Photoshoot Ideas post for more visuals on how to pose teens in pictures.

ADULT IDENTICAL TWINS PICTURES
Adults are more willing to come in for a photoshoot – but usually only when it’s for a job headshot or a specific project. My suggestion is this: you don’t have to wait for a particular reason to take your portraits – come in to create memories today.
If you are a young adult and don’t have a family yet, come in to take some creative portraits of yourself. You will never look this good and this young again – gift yourself an experience of a lifetime.
At Bidun Studio photography, you will meet professional photographers who know how to guide you in proper preparation, how to make you feel relaxed and take beautiful and unique photographs.
