Every time we visit this area, we discover new beautiful, and exciting locations for pictures.
You will find plenty of greenery and trees around the Capitol building – at the State Capitol Park. The Rose Garden is often one of the preferred spots for senior girls. And my favorite locations are the unique buildings on the streets of Downtown Sacramento.
These types of backdrops make for phenomenal senior portraits for anyone! Many photographers love this location for the many photoshoot opportunities they can work with.

SKIP THE TOURISTS
Sacramento is the capital of California, which results in a lot of tourists visiting this city. One of the most popular places everyone tries to visit is downtown Sacramento. A lot of tourists and visitors like to stroll around the Capitol building, particularly the State Capitol Park.
Downtown Sacramento gets the most popular during the weekends. I would suggest coming here for a photoshoot during the weekdays. It’s much easier to find a good parking spot on a weekday, as well as better access to photoshoot places.

BEST WAY TO GET TO DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO
On that note, I should share a little suggestion from my own experience. Getting to downtown Sacramento is more convenient by using an Uber or Lyft ride, instead of taking your own car.
It can get quite frustrating to find a close-by parking spot without spending a fortune on it. This will also save you a lot of time driving around looking for a parking space. And also walking to and from the senior photoshoot location.
If you are coming here as a family to spend the day, then it’s best to go in your car. It will be the most convenient transportation method for you then.
ABOUT THE SENIOR PHOTOSHOOT
Downtown Sacramento is the location we settled on for Saferrah’s senior portrait photography. It worked so well with her outfits and accessories. She came very prepared and was eager to start her most exciting photoshoot yet!

We started the senior portrait session by taking some portraits around the California State Capitol building. As she got more used to the camera and the Sacramento photographer, we went for more artistic photos. We started experimenting with different lighting, outfits, props and poses.

DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO LOCATIONS WHERE WE PHOTOGRAPHED
During this photoshoot, we walked around the streets of Downtown Sacramento. Later, we stopped by the Hyatt Regency Sacramento to take portraits with the greenery in the front of the hotel.
Shortly after that, we made a quick stop at Chicory Coffee & Tea. It was a great spot to get a refreshing and reenergizing drink to continue with a senior photography session.
The two-hour senior photo session went by very quickly, and the sun started to set down.
SENIOR PORTRAITS WITH DIRECT SUNLIGHT
I like taking portraits with dramatic lighting. There’s something very exciting and intriguing about those pictures. During this session, an opportunity came up in the last minutes of sunset.
We managed to get a couple of pictures with direct light on Saferrah’s face. I have to say, that I just loved the contrast that it made. You can find those images in the gallery below.
After taking the last couple of portraits, we knew that the mission was accomplished. I felt confident that we have captured enough gorgeous senior pictures for Saferrah to choose from.
